1.  Who is responsible for processing your information

Compare the Market Limited and BGL Group Limited are part of the BGL Group of Companies. This website is owned and operated by BGL Group Limited and if you register for an account, BGL Group Limited will be the controller of the data that you provide, this means we exercise overall control over the purposes and means of the processing of personal data during the recruitment process. BGL Group Limited will share data you provide with other companies in the BGL Group, including Compare the Market Limited, in order to progress your employment application. References in this privacy policy to “we”, “us” and “our” means BGL Group Limited.

BGL Group Limited is registered in England and Wales with company number 2593690, and our registered address is Pegasus House, Bakewell Road, Orton Southgate, Peterborough, PE2 6YS.

When you submit your data to us, we will process your personal data, including any special category personal data, for the purposes set out in this Recruitment Privacy Policy.

2. Your Account and application

To apply for any jobs through this website you must create an account. To create an account, you must, where applicable, provide your personal details including:

  • your name;
  • email address;
  • phone number; and address.
If we offer you a job you will be asked to provide:
  • right to work information;
  • academic record and qualifications;
  • proof of address;
  • employment history; and
  • any other mandatory personal information which is required in relation to your employment.
Creating an account allows you to use the website to consent to receive job alerts and to apply for jobs. You can log into your account at any time and update the information you have provided.
Your account will be automatically closed if you do not use or access your account to apply for jobs for a period of more than 12 months.

When applying for a job you will be asked for your consent to allow us to market other job roles to you. In accordance with Section 9 “Your Rights”, you can object to this at any time.

3. Considering your application

When you apply for a vacancy with us, either directly or through a Recruitment Agency, we will process your data for the purposes of the consideration of any application for employment or to carry out work for us and for employee administration.

Where applicable, we may ask you or a Recruitment Agency to provide information about you and your right to work. For example, we may ask for your passport number; driving licence; national insurance number; gender; immigration status; and biometric data where provided on residence cards for non-UK citizens.

We may also ask you questions regarding any reasonable adjustments you may need as part of the application process. You do not have to provide this information if you do not want to.

When considering your application, if you have previously been employed by or carried out any work for any member of the BGL Group of Companies, or have made previous applications with us, then we may carry out checks against data that may already be held on you within the BGL Group.

By providing us with information, either directly or indirectly, you certify that all the information you have given is true, complete and accurate, and acknowledge that if any information you have given is incorrect, incomplete or misleading, this may lead to withdrawal of any offer of employment or dismissal without notice if you have commenced work.

As part of your application, we may ask you to undertake psychometric tests or skills evaluation assessments to help us inform your suitability for the role and assess your application. Where either we or you engage a Recruitment Agency that has been instructed by us to fulfil the relevant role we may share information relating to you with that Recruitment Agency and their colleagues. This may include information about the progression of your application, and performance at interviews or assessment centres where relevant.

Data protection laws says that we have to tell you about the legal basis for why we process your information required for a job application. In the case of this information, we process it because it is necessary for us to consider your application to enter into a contract with us.

However, where you provide us with optional information relating to either your race or ethnicity, we process this information because we have a legitimate business interest in strengthening diversity and inclusion in our roles, policies, and workplace culture.

Where we ask you to undertake psychometric tests or skills evaluation assessments as part of the application process we do this because we have a legitimate business interest to identify the most suitable employees, as well as improving our assessment strategy.

We also have a legitimate business interest in discussing the progress of your application with Recruitment Agencies where relevant, this again is to identify the most suitable employees, whilst also enabling us to tailor your interview process based on information Recruitment Agencies know about you.

4. Diversity Information

When you apply for a role at BGL Group we may ask you questions relating to diversity and equal opportunities. This information is kept confidential and is completely optional to complete. It is only used for the research and analysis purposes and is anonymised where possible, in the event we are ever required to collect this information to comply with legal requirements for reporting this type of data to the UK Government we will let you know.

In relation to diversity information, we process this data because we have a legitimate business interest in carrying out these activities to carry out research and analysis. We have ensured appropriate safeguards to protect your rights when processing this data for these purposes. 5. Credit Searches and Background Checks

This section only applies if you are successful in your application.
The BGL Group is required by the Financial Conduct Authority to ensure that its employees are of good character and are suitably able to perform their job, and it is our policy to complete credit references where appropriate. Therefore, if you are successful in your application a search will be carried out with a credit reference agency, via Procius Limited who will be introduced to you by us. Following your introduction, you shall provide your consent for Procius Limited to undertake such search. A record of this search will appear on your credit report but will not be visible to third parties and will not impact your credit score.

A criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service will also be carried out with your prior consent, as well as proof of identity, right to work and sanctions checks.

As part of meeting fit and proper requirements required by the Financial Conduct Authority, BGL Group Limited will carry out an adverse media and social media check for successful applicants to Senior Management Functions (SMFs) and Certification roles.

We may also ask your previous employers to confirm certain information about you; however, we will notify you before we do this.

In relation to such searches and background information, we process this data because we have a legitimate business interest in carrying out these activities to verify the information that has been provided during your application and to demonstrate the fulfilment of obligations to our regulators. We have ensured appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your rights when processing this data for these purposes.

If you are successful in your application, a separate employee data protection statement will be made available to you and will apply to any personal data that is processed about you in relation to your employment.

6. Recipients of Data

In order to process your application, we may need to transfer or provide access to your personal data to third parties, the categories of these third parties are:

  • Recruitment Agencies – for the purposes of (i) apply for a role, and (ii) discussing the progress of your application, including any feedback where applicable.
  • Colleagues – where a colleague has referred you for a role and we offer them an incentive for successful referrals they may be able to see the status of your application.
  • Companies that undertake employment background screening and criminality checking – please see Section 5 above.
  • Providers of psychometric tests or skills evaluation assessments - to help determine your suitability for the role.
  • Software and technology providers – we use third-party providers to host the applications and websites that support account creation and manage our recruitment processes. These providers process your personal information on our behalf. For example, we use recruitment and job application services provided by Oracle Corporation UK Limited (‘Oracle’).

7. Overseas Transfer of Data

We may share your personal data described above with third party suppliers and other recipients. These suppliers or recipients may be located in countries outside the UK which may not have equivalent laws in place to protect your personal data.

Whenever we do use third party suppliers to process personal data about you outside the UK we will ensure that your personal data is held securely, is only used for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, and is afforded equivalent protection as it would be if it were processed in the UK. To ensure this, we rely on appropriate lawful transfer mechanisms, which may include:

  • agreements and clauses which are approved by the UK government that are entered into by us with these suppliers or recipients, often with additional safeguards where necessary; 
  • transfers to countries deemed by the UK government to provide an adequate level of data protection to that provided in the UK; or 
  • other UK approved transfer mechanisms for example for transfers to certified organisations in the US who sign up to certain frameworks or policies.

8. Retention of Data

If you are successful with your application, information you provided during your application will be retained for the duration of your employment and as long as is reasonably necessary afterwards in connection with your employment. Further information on processing in relation to your employment will be subject to our Employee Privacy Statement which you will be given access to.

If your application is unsuccessful, we will keep your information for a reasonable period of time in line with legal requirements and for administration purposes. We may also keep your data so that we can contact you if other job opportunities arise in the future which we think may be suitable for you. The period of which we retain this data will not exceed 3 years from the date you are told your application is unsuccessful.

9. Your Rights

Data protection law gives you various rights regarding your personal data. These include the rights for you to:

  • Be provided with a copy of the data that we hold about you;
  • Have inaccurate data corrected;
    Object to personal data being processed (although this does not apply to data that we need to process for the purpose of your application, appointment, or employment);
  • Ask us to restrict the data that we process about you;
  • Ask that personal data about you is deleted (although again this does not apply to data that we need to process for the purpose of your application, appointment, or employment). You may also be able to request the deletion of your account via the account settings. However, personal data will be retained for the purposes mentioned above.
  • You also have the right to ask for any automated decisions that are made about you to be reviewed, however we do not use any wholly automated decisions as part of our recruitment process. The results of any psychometric tests or skills evaluation assessments you undertake will be automated, but the results of these tests or assessments will not be the sole basis in determining the outcome of your application, outcomes will be used to tailor interviews and questions we ask you.
